How to Care for Your Skin After CO₂ Laser Treatment

CO₂ laser is one of the most effective treatments for deep acne scars, especially boxcar scars. It resurfaces the skin and stimulates collagen, giving smoother results.

But in Asian skin, there’s a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) or darkening after laser. That’s why aftercare is critical.

Here’s a simple guide to what happens to your skin, and what you should do at each stage.

Stage 1: Healing Phase (Day 0–7)

🧴 Skin condition:

  • Red, swollen, sometimes crusty

  • Feels raw, tight, and sensitive

  • Very fragile skin barrier

Use:

  • Ointment → Keeps wounds moist, speeds healing ( ie antibiotic ointment)

  • Dr. Diana Gentle Cleanser → Cleans without irritating

  • Dr. Diana Skin Barrier Emulsion → Hydrates + strengthens barrier

  • Hydrating / Soothing Facial Mask.

Avoid:

  • Caution with Sunscreen: In the first few days, the skin is too raw and may have open wounds. Sunscreen at this stage can trap heat and irritate the healing skin.

  • Scrubbing or picking

  • Any whitening/active products

Goal: Focus on healing and comfort.

Stage 2: Controlled Repair Phase (Day 7–14)

🧴 Skin condition:

  • Barrier is stronger, less redness

  • Some dryness, flaking, or mild pigmentation may appear

  • Ready for mild brightening

Use (Base):

  • Dr. Diana Skin Barrier Emulsion → AM + PM

Add Brightening Cream (gentle, controlled): example active ingredient:

  • Niacinamide 5% → Strengthens + reduces pigment

  • Tranexamic Acid 3% → Prevents darkening

  • Azelaic Acid 10% → Redness + mild whitening

  • Arbutin 2–3% → Blocks melanin safely

Avoid:

  • Harsh acids (AHA, BHA, high % Azelaic, Retinol)

  • Direct sun (start using sunscreen now)

Goal: Prevent pigmentation while skin is still fragile.

Stage 3: Intensive Brightening Phase (After 2 Weeks)

🧴 Skin condition:

  • Mostly healed, barrier much stronger

  • Pigmentation may start appearing if not protected

  • Skin can tolerate stronger treatment

Keep Using:

  • Dr. Diana Gentle Cleanser

  • Dr. Diana Skin Barrier Emulsion

Step Up (doctor prescribed):

  • Triluma Cream (only under doctor guidance)

Avoid:

  • Overusing brightening creams (stick to doctor’s advice)

  • Skipping sunscreen

Goal: Maximize results (brightening + scar improvement).
